Supermaker: Crafting Business on Your Own Terms is a business memoir by Jaime Schmidt, founder of Schmidt's Naturals, published by Chronicle Books. I designed the cover, created all interior illustrations, designed the patterns, and art directed how the interiors looked throughout. There's a thread worth noting: I designed packaging for Schmidt's Naturals earlier in my career, this book is about how she built that company.
The cover concept came from the book's subject: a maker pressing her stamp on the world. Two illustrated hands hold a card bearing the Supermaker logo, one pressing down from above, one supporting from below. Bold color blocks divide the background into quadrants that reference the energy of the brand without being literal. The same hand illustration and the Supermaker wordmark carry through into the title page, extending the cover identity into the book's opening.
Every chapter opener is illustrated in a woodcut-inspired style — bold black and white, high contrast, with a hand-printed texture that references the handmade ethos of Jaime's story. The illustrations were created to complement the narrative: workshop tools for the early hustle chapters, Schmidt's product jars for the scaling chapters, a hand signing a contract for the acquisition. The style stays consistent throughout while each illustration responds specifically to its chapter's content.
Supermaker published with Chronicle Books and is in print. It's one of the more personally connected projects in my portfolio, a book about a founder and a friend, designed in a visual language that honors both her story and the handmade spirit of how she built her business.
