An official art book for Bravest Warriors: the animated series from Pendleton Ward, creator of Adventure Time published by Dark Horse Books in partnership with Frederator Studios and Nelvana. The book collects original sketches, concept art, storyboards, scripts, character references, and environment designs from across the show's production. I designed the full book, from cover through interior layout and typography, building a design system that could handle the enormous variety of content without losing coherence.
The design needed to feel like Bravest Warriors: playful, sci-fi, and a little retro without competing with the show's art. The cover system uses a sketch texture background to honor the production art inside, with full-color characters floating above it. The logotype treatment, neon green with a black outline and horizontal stripe fill references old-school sci-fi title cards while staying rooted in the show's visual language. The back cover flips the palette entirely, going full deep-space blue to contrast the white front.
The interior layout system had to handle an enormous range of content types: full-bleed environment illustrations, dense character reference grids, rough production sketches, storyboards, episode stills, scripts, and long-form editorial text often within the same spread. The design language stays consistent throughout: green accent headers, the logotype treatment for pull quotes, white circle containers for floating information over art, and a grid flexible enough to accommodate wildly different content without losing the book's identity.
The Art of Bravest Warriors published with Dark Horse Books and is in print. Alongside The Art of Rick and Morty, it represents a body of licensed animation art book work at Dark Horse, each requiring a design language faithful to the source material while functioning as a well-organized, beautiful book in its own right.
